After reading Mechanical Engineering at Heriot-Watt University Edinburgh, Jock found his first break into motor racing at Lola Cars as a junior design engineer before moving to the Benetton Formula 1 team in 1989 as Head of Composite Design. Jock took his first track side engineers position at the historic Lotus Grand Prix team, subsequently joining Williams. It was at Williams that Jock started his long standing association with Jacques Villeneuve, guiding him to the FIA drivers world championship in 1997 and then helping him set up the fledgling British American Racing team in 1999. Jock’s 17 years with British American Racing saw them change ownership and name a number of times before the arrival of Ross Brawn which saw the team reach its goal of winning the FIA world drivers and constructors championships in 2009, a success which laid the foundations for the current domination of Mercedes AMG Petronas.
