After Cox customized a pair of shoes for a Loucas Kleanthous show, Loucas urged him to study footwear design. In September 1983, he moved to London to attend Cordwainers Technical College. He graduated in July 1988 with merit. While at school, he produced footwear for Vivienne Westwood and Body Map. These influential designers and their shows were pivotal to his visibility and future success. In August 1985, Cox set up his own company to design, produce, and wholesale footwear.
