Alan Chambers joined the Royal Marine Commandos in 1985 and continued to serve in the Royal Marines for the next sixteen years, qualifying as a diver, parachutist, paramedic and ski survival instructor. Whilst in the Marines, he travelled the world, working in the Arctic, desert, jungle and mountains. He spent four winters in the mountains of North Norway spending extensive time teaching and instructing and leading various size teams of Marines, until Christmas 2000, when he left the service.[/expand]
