Sebastian Mallaby
Director of the Maurice R Greenberg Center, Journalist and Author
Sebastian Mallaby is director of the Maurice R Greenberg Center for Geoeconomic Studies and the Paul A Volcker senior fellow for International Economics at the Council on Foreign Relations. Sebastian is also Contributing Editor for the Financial Times, for which he writes a monthly column on international finance. An experienced journalist and an acclaimed author, Sebastian joined CFR from the Washington Post, where he served as an op-ed columnist and editorial board member.

Sebastian spent thirteen years on The Economist magazine, covering international finance in London and serving as the bureau chief in southern Africa, Japan, and Washington, where he wrote the magazine’s weekly Lexington column on American politics and foreign policy. He spent eight years on the editorial board of The Washington Post, focusing on globalisation and political economy. He has also contributed to numerous other publications, including Foreign Affairs, Foreign Policy, The Atlantic Monthly, Prospect (UK), the New York Times, and the Wall Street Journal. Sebastian examines how the interplay of economics and politics is shaping international relations. His interests cover a wide variety of domestic US and international issues, including globalisation, the implications of the rise of newly emerging powers, trade and investment trends and economic policy. Since the publication of his prize-winning bestseller, ‘More Money Than God: Hedge Funds and the Making of a New Elite’, Sebastian’s speaking has focused on the role of hedge funds in institutional portfolios and on their potential to stabilize the global financial system.[/expand]

He is currently a Non-Executive Director of Assicurazioni Generali, Non-Executive Deputy Chairman of London Stock Exchange Group, Non-Executive Director of Veolia Environment. He is also on the Board of Overseers of the Columbia Business School and the Fondazione Teatro alla Scala.
Howard Lerner is the founder of Kaldi’s Coffee, a chain of retail cafes supported by a large coffee roasting facility located in St. Louis. Kaldi’s is at the center of Third Wave Coffee, a movement devoted to elevating the efforts of world coffee workers, from farmer to barista; from seed to cup.
Luigi Colani may be the best-known designer the world over – recognizable by his “Colani” signature on all his designs and products as well as by the biodynamic forms he creates, modelled after nature itself. He has enjoyed an extraordinary career as a designer, creating many of the forms that are visible in today’s society. In 2007 he was awarded the “Life-Time-Award” in the famous Design-University of Pasadena as a further prize for his life time work, having received numerous design awards.
Professor Barbara Krug is a leading expert on economic developments in China and the Far East. She has carried out many years of scientific and economic research which has contributed to the greater understanding of these regions and helped to improve East/West relations. Barbara has also been lecturing since 1981 at the University of Saarbrücken and is a visiting Professor at a number of seats of learning around the globe.
Alexander Kumar is a British born part Indian medical doctor who has lived, worked and travelled through over 80 countries on all 7 continents and is an experienced expedition medic to remote areas of the world. Fascinated by life in the Polar Regions from a young age, he followed his heart to the Canadian Arctic, where he completed his dissertation conducting the first piece of research on HIV among Inuit. Later, Alex travelled to Antarctica and spent around one year living at Concordia, a joint French-Italian inland Antarctic research station as the Human Spaceflight Research MD to conduct research for the European Space Agency in an attempt to understand how far human physiology and psychology can be pushed towards a future manned mission to Mars.
Murat Günak is a world-renowned and respected automotive designer. He was Head of Design at leading automotive companies, such as Peugeot, DaimlerChrysler and Volkswagen, including Skoda and Bentley. He is currently the CEO of Mindset, an innovative idea company in Switzerland. Since 2007, he has been devoting himself primarily to the development of vehicles with electric drive. After having completed the Swiss hybrid car Mindset, Günak designed the mia – the heart of mia electric GmbH, a company of which he is also a managing director.
Gerry McGovern is recognised as one of the world’s leading automotive designers. As Design Director and Chief Creative Officer for Land Rover, Gerry creates some of the world’s most distinctive and desirable vehicles. Gerry is also a member of the Jaguar Land Rover Executive Committee. His wider remit is to guide all aspects of visual communications ensuring a consistent look and feel between vehicles and identity of the brand. He and his team are in the process of creating an entire new generation of Land Rovers, redefining the brand and building on established heritage to make the product range relevant to the 21st Century including the phenomenally successful Range Rover Evoque. Gerry is currently leading the team to develop opportunities to grow the business into new areas.
Andreas Henke is the General Manager Marketing Services at Porsche Germany GmbH. In early 2005 he was appointed Head of Marketing Services and was responsible for worldwide trade shows, dealer launch events, the driving experience programs such as the Porsche Sport Driving School, Road Show and World Travel Club. During the launch, in 2000, of the Porsche Cayenne, the new 911 and the new Boxster, he acted as a ghost writer for the board of directors and the distribution organisations.
