After studying economics and law Eckard worked for multinational companies in Saudi Arabia and Algeria before he started working for DaimerChrysler in 1980. He is co-editor of the journal Organisationsentwicklung, lecturer at the FU Berlin and TU Berlin as well as honorary professor for sociology and technology at the University of Technology and Economics in Berlin.
